As the DFW Metroplex continues to grow so does the concern about air quality in the region. Currently, Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties are in an air quality non-attainment region. This means that air pollution levels in the region persistently exceed national air quality standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency.

City of Denton elected officials and staff are aware of the negative impact poor air quality can have on public health and the area's continued economic growth. For these reasons, they continue to work on forming partnerships with regional organizations to take action on improving air quality in our city and region.

Some regional organizations Denton has teamed up with to address air quality concerns include: NCTCOG, North Texas Clean Air Coalition, and Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition.
